A one-day packaged tour experience exploring the food and cultural heritage of regional Australia across the historic districts of Borenore, Molong and Carcoar in the Central West region of New South Wales. Includes guided visits to local sacred Wiradjuri sites and a bush tucker tasting experience with a visit to the historic village of Carcoar and lunch at the local Italian locanda, Antica Australis.
RUNNING EVERY SATURDAY THROUGHOUT SEPTEMBER 2020.
Overnight extension option to stay in luxury or boutique accommodation in either Orange or the historic village of Carcoar.
We start our Antica Australis experience with a walk through a native edibles community garden in Orange hosted by a local Indigenous cultural tour guide and bush tucker expert, followed by a visit to the historic gravesite of Yuranigh near Molong (Yuranigh died in 1850 and was a respected Wiradjuri tracker who helped European explorer Sir Thomas Mitchell map the inland of Australia). We then visit the sacred Wiradjuri site of Borenore Caves in Borenore followed by an outdoor bush tucker tasting experience.Next stop is the historic village of Carcoar, the third European settlement to be established west of the Blue Mountains (in 1839) and is one of Australia’s most perfectly preserved 19th century villages.
We will take a pause by the beautiful Belubula River in the heart of Wiradjuri country to rest and revive our spirits at the Italian locanda, Antica Australis for a two-course lunch. Opened in the spirit of the old Cobb & Co inns dotted along Australian bush tracks, this locanda serves up a collaboration of First Nation Australian bush tucker with a wild-style southern Italian twist.
Classified by the Australian National Trust, after lunch we will take you on a guided tour of Carcoar’s beautiful historic buildings, including St Paul’s Anglican Church (1845), the Carcoar Hospital Museum (1860), the Carcoar Court House (1882) and the art-nouveau Carcoar School of Arts (1901). A visit to Carcoar would not be replete without a look inside the old Commercial Bank (1863) which now houses the incomparable Carcoar 20th Century Toy Museum.
