We got together with our local whiskey bar, Washington & Co. plus local vineyards Angullong and Canobolas-Smith Wines, for a bit of midweek magic to celebrate the 2016 Orange Wine Festival.
Paolo came up with a Roman menu to match the food to drinks – with Angullong Sparkling on arrival to accompany the antipasti platters, the traditional Roman dish of pecorino cheese and pepper pasta (Cacio e Pepe) with Canobolas-Smith Chardonnay, and an espresso martini shaken at the bar by Scott & James and served with tiramisu.
It’s right about here we’re going to have to reiterate the WOW taste explosion that was Cacio e Pepe with Canobolas-Smith Chardonnay. There’s something about the pecorino cheese and pepper that just made that already classic cool-climate chardy COMPLETELY ZING. In the kitchen we were taking a mouthful of pasta, washed down with chardonnay at regular intervals just to check we were onto something. And oh yes we are…
While we’re at it, kitchen staff pick was the espresso martini with the tiramisu. COULD LIFE GET ANY BETTER?!
