4 days / 3 nights packaged and hosted experience, available only in conjunction with the Wild Heart of Italy package
Arrive in Rome and get acquainted with the Italian dolce vita – this is one of the world’s most incredible cities, and while the sightseeing is amazing the real experience is behind-the-scenes in the laneways where all the real Romans hang out. Follow us through the narrow cobbled streets and let us help you find your bearings amongst the beauty and vivacity of Rome as a living city.
For the 9-16 September 2018 package, we recommend you arrive on Thursday 6 September and for our 12-19 May 2019 package plan to arrive on Thursday 9 May. You will be met at the airport on your arrival and transferred to the designated tour hotel.
Depending on your arrival time, take the opportunity to stroll around the Trastevere neighbourhood and get delightfully lost. Stop in at the many bars and cafes along the way. We will be hosting a welcome dinner at a local trattoria in the evening.
Put your walking shoes on and get ready to see the splendour of Rome! We are going to start the morning with a porchetta roll from the Campo di Fiori markets, then stroll along to the Pantheon and through the Piazza Navona, past the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps to the Piazza del Popolo and up into the Villa Borghese Gardens for the marvellous view over the Eternal City. You’ll get your bearings along this walk, and from here we will lead you towards the Roman Forum. We have a two-day Roma pass for each guest, which entitles you to entry to the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and Palatine Museum, and the Colosseum (if you feel like daring the queue!). Dinner will be back in Trastevere at one of our favourite Roman medieval restaurants, in an old merchant’s warehouse in a fire-lit cobblestoned piazza.
This is a free day for you to get back out there and uncover the corners of Rome. Your Roma Pass is still valid, so you may like to go back to the Forum or the Palatine Hill or line-up early for those Colosseum queues! We will meet you in the early evening for aperitivos in Trastevere, and then take you to a hidden gem of a restaurant that serves up ancient Roman recipes and has a cellar underneath the restaurant that literally dates back to Roman times. They might even take us down there if we ask nicely!
We can also help you arrange optional foodie walking tours of the truly Roman neighbourhoods of Trastevere or Testaccio, an underground tour of the Roman catacombs or you can even choose to sightsee Rome on the back of a vespa. Your wish is our command 🌠 Prices available on request.
We will be departing the hotel at around 11am to start out on our Ciociarian food + wine cultural adventure! It’s just a 1.5 – 2 hour drive to our mountaintop village from the centre of Rome.
